Diversity, Equality and Inclusion
Everyone deserves to feel seen, respected and welcome.
I believe that therapy needs to make space for the whole person — including the identities, cultures, relationships, experiences and communities that shape who we are.
People come to therapy with different experiences of race, ethnicity, culture, gender, sexuality, disability, neurodiversity, religion, age, class and socioeconomic circumstances. These experiences can influence how we understand ourselves, how others respond to us, and how safe or able we feel to be fully ourselves.
I aim to create a therapeutic relationship where you do not need to leave important parts of yourself at the door. Your identity and lived experience will be respected, and we can explore how these may be relevant to what brings you to therapy, if and when you choose to.
A person-centred approach places particular importance on creating a relationship built on respect, empathy, acceptance and authenticity. I recognise that I cannot fully know another person’s experience from my own perspective, so I approach difference with openness, curiosity and humility. This means being willing to listen, to learn, and to reflect on my own assumptions, privileges and blind spots.
I also recognise that our sense of self develops within relationships and the wider social and cultural worlds we inhabit. Experiences of exclusion, discrimination, prejudice or not belonging can have a profound impact on wellbeing.
Therapy can offer a space to explore these experiences without judgement, and to consider what it means for you to live in a way that feels more authentic and aligned with who you are.
I am committed to continuing to learn and develop my practice so that therapy is as inclusive and accessible as possible. If there is something about your identity, culture, access needs or experience that you would like me to understand, you are welcome to bring it into our work.
You do not have to explain or represent an entire community. You are the expert on your own experience, and our work begins with meeting you as you are.
